COVID UPDATES & ANNOUNCEMENTS
10/03/2021
Message to Members from the Chairman
Dear Member,
Finally, I can bring you some good news. We have been able to re-schedule our 129th ’20 Ch Show and our 130th ’21 Ch Show, subject to KC agreement and licence re-issue, which has been applied for. These will not in May as we had originally hoped as this in the end was too close to the ‘Road Map’ date of 17th May, which could move in either direction depending on circumstances, and it was deemed too much of a risk for the shows to run this close up to the suggested date of easing for hospitality and larger gathering allowances that Step 3 brings and that are required to allow the shows to run in something like their normal manner.
Allowing for this and other General Ch Show moves very few dates were available without going to midweek, thankfully one weekend was and so please put Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th June in your diaries. This is currently one day earlier than Step 4 implementation on the Road Map and so we will have to implement the Step 3 regulations which currently limit the numbers of people allowed to 50% of the venue capacity and social distancing, mask wearing etc will still be required. Please only enter the shows if you are prepared to fully comply with all Government regulations that are in place and will have to be followed at the time of the shows.
More good news is that there is no venue change, we will be able to hold the shows at the Weston Hall Hotel, Bulkington, in the usual big function room. Both elected judges, Liz Stannard and our Patron Sandra Sharratt, are able to officiate. The hotel has held its usual room rates for us and pre-booked Motorhomes will be allowed as usual on the same terms. Schedules for both shows will be available on our website by the end of March.
We are planning to hold our postponed AGM over the weekend as well and more details of this will be circulated shortly.
The vaccine roll out continues on target and by our show dates the vast majority of our exhibitors will have the protection of at least one jab and our more senior cohort will be fully vaccinated. I’m sure that like me you are all looking forward to being able to enjoy our hobby once more and I look forward to seeing you all in June. Until then stay safe and enjoy your Poms.
Yours sincerely,
Sean Gwynne

Message to Members from the Chairman
Dear Member,
I hope that you had as good a Christmas and New Year as was possible and that you are coping well in this further lockdown.
Since I last wrote to you in October much has happened on a global and national scale and as the vaccine roll out seems to be going to plan there is room for cautious optimism, however, the new variants which are appearing are obviously a big worry, as any of you who are following the pandemic news closely will be aware.
I wanted to up-date you on where we currently are with Pom Club planning and our ideas for this year, hoping that before too much longer we will be able to hold our shows and meet once again.
It is now over a year since we were last able to meet and the Club is now in the unusual position of not having held the AGM, which was due in January. However, this is also the case for virtually all clubs and societies, indeed many did not manage to hold AGMs last year or make their Annual Returns either. We were fortunate to be able to do both. The Kennel Club has given extensions so this is not an issue and I am very hopeful that we will be in a position to hold the AGM at some point this year and also then complete our Annual Returns for 2021.
Following the cancellation of our rearranged Ch Show in November we contacted some Midlands based all-breeds Ch Shows to explore the possibility of pairing with one of them to hold the ’20 Ch show with them in ’21. It became clear that most had already accepted as many of these as they felt they could accommodate with other breeds.
Our ’21, 130th Championship Show was planned and booked at the Weston Hall Hotel for the 28th March. As January ticked by we saw little to suggest that hospitality etc would be opened up in time and had to take the decision to postpone yet again, which I’m sure will disappoint you but perhaps not come as a surprise.
Where do we go from here? I strongly feel that at some point this year it should be possible to hold Covid secure outside events in the same way as we saw others do last year. So, at the moment we are looking at May and hoping to hold the two shows back to back with 2020 on the Saturday and 2021, the 130th, on the Sunday. The shows will be held outside, as we saw last year the restrictions are likely to be lifted sooner and more widely for outside events. May’s weather might be kind to us. Other shows (Birmingham National and Bath) moved their dates meaning that May is now relatively free but the rest of the summer months are more packed than usual. We have checked with both our judges and asked them to hold the weekends of 8th & 9th, 15th & 16th and 29th & 30th May. Please would you do the same if you can and also wish to exhibit.
The Weston Hall have been contacted and they could accommodate us in their wedding marquee, which, with the sides removed would class as outside, yet give a good floor and wet weather overhead, but the only weekend in May they could do is the 8th & 9th, which has potentially been booked for us. The problem is that if hospitality is still closed or is still very limited on the numbers it is allowed this might not be feasible.
To give us options we are now exploring other non-hotel, outdoor venues, where events have been held last summer, so we know that it is possible with regards to Local Authority and Police permissions, to give us other options and back up plans.
If the May dates start to look less possible (none of us know what other curve balls this virus has up its sleeve….) we will look at dates further through the summer. As I said in my October letter this is our 130th year and we will somehow find a way to celebrate it.
This has been and continues to be a very difficult period for all of us. My best wishes and hopes for you all to keep well and make the best of things for yourselves and your Poms.
Yours sincerely,
Sean Gwynne

The Pomeranian Club Committee is disappointed to announce the cancellation of the Clubs Championship Show on the 8th November 2020 and the Breed Open Show on the 23rd January 2021. This decision has been made in view of the Government Guidance and the recent increase in restrictions due to the current pandemic. Every scenario has been explored in an attempt to hold our shows, as we know so many of our supporters are missing our normal doggy lives, but looking at the bigger picture, everybody's welfare is paramount. Any cheques received relating to entry fees for the Championship Show will be destroyed.
The Committee hopes to be back on track next year with our Anniversary Championship Show as usual in March 2021. In the meantime, we hope you all stay safe and encourage you all to contact and support others within our doggy community.

The Pomeranian Club Committee is disappointed to announce the cancellation of the Clubs Open Breed Show due to be held 18th October 2020 also the clubs annual Contest Of Winners event on the 28th November 2020. This decision has been made with the present Government Guidance of restrictions for indoor gatherings during the current pandemic in mind. Although disappointing, the welfare of all our supporters is paramount. At the present time our Championship Show on the 8th November 2020 is still scheduled to go ahead dependent on Government Guidelines approaching close of entry. Please don’t send entries early, and in the event of cancellation, all cheques would be destroyed. Further updates will be posted and we hope to see you all in November.

The Officers and Committee of The Pomeranian Club regret to inform exhibitors at the forth coming Championship Show that due to the most recent Government Guidance, the show is unable to go ahead. Over the next few weeks exhibitors will be refunded their entry fees. Please could any exhibitors who have booked rooms in the hotel, please contact them directly to cancel their booking.
We have re-scheduled the Championship Show to Sunday 8th November 2020 (subject to Kennel Club confirmation) at our usual venue of The Weston Hall Hotel and we are grateful that our scheduled Judge, Mrs Liz Stannard, is available on this date and has agreed to Judge for us.
We wish all our members and exhibitors to stay safe and well and continue to enjoy your Poms through this unprecedented and extremely difficult period.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO MEMBERS re: Code of Ethics
The Kennel Club has advised that it has reviewed its Code of Ethics and made the following amendment to Regulation C2.e., Clause 2, which now reads: Will agree with out reservation that any Veterinary Surgeon who performs an operation on any of their dogs which alters the natural conformation of the animal, or who carries out a Caesarean Section on a bitch may report such operations to the Kennel Club. The Pomeranian Club is required to up-date it’s Code in line with this amendment and also to notify members of the change.
As you will have read in the Dog Press as of 1/1/12 Veterinary Surgeons will not perform more than 2 Caesarean Sections on any bitch and will be sending forms back to the Kennel Club notifying of any such operations which have taken place.
