Club Objective
The objective of The Pomeranian Club, as given in our constitution, is "to promote the breeding of pomeranians of the true type, and to urge the adoption of such type on breeders, dog show committees and others as the only recognised, unvarying standard of excellence in breeding and awarding prizes of merit to pomeranians".
It is the Club's current committee's responsiblity to try and fulfil these aims and to support The Kennel Club's requirements, particularly in the case of those aspiring to judge the breed. To this end, the Club gives opportunities for learning to its members, breeders and judges, and these events in the past have always been well attended.
Over recent years The Pomeranian Club has organised a seminar at least once a year for the benefit of members and those who judge the breed. Most recently, this has meant that once every two years we run a seminar for judges, which is usually specifically breed-oriented, or on one of the tests aspiring judges are now asked to undertake by The Kennel Club. Occasionally, this has been on 'show regulations and procedures'; a seminar which includes The Kennel Club test to be taken under examination conditions and I am pleased to report that so far we have had a 100% pass rate.
Our breed seminar for judges has no written test as such, but includes a self-examination paper done in groups led by an experienced judge from our 'A' list. This gives those who attend the opportunity to assess what they have been taught and to discuss anything they have not fully understood with their colleagues. Such a seminar is usually held in conjunction with a breed show, giving members ample opportunity for 'hands on' experience.
Usually held in alternate years to the seminars for judges, 'teach-ins' for our newer (and some more experienced) members are usually on 'the preperation of pomeranians' for the show ring, including trimming, grooming, etc. These are the kind of things which are very difficult to learn from reading even the best of books, and exhibitors quickly find that good presentation can make a great deal of difference to the award your dog might win in the show ring.
Your committee feels that its work in education is very important for the well-being of our lovely breed, and will continue to plan such events for as long as members support them.
